Microsoft & Mozilla still continue to battle in the popularity stakes for their respective web browsers. Internet Explorer is the web browser developed by Microsoft and is vastly popular as this browser is distributed within the Windows operating system, whilst also being available as a download from Microsoft’s website. Mozilla develop Firefox, which has come to prominence in the last few years and is particularly popular with certain factions of web browsers, such as Web Designers.

Most Firefox faithful regard Internet Explorer as a browser with many security flaws and vulnerability, and believe that they only reason it is on top is because Internet Explorer is available with all new PC’s bundled with the Windows operating system.

Internet Explorer users seem to be happy with Internet Explorer and often regard Firefox as being too complicated and susceptible to crashes when many tabs are open at once. However, Microsoft clearly copied one of Firefox’s best functionalities in the use of tabs, which Internet Explorer sadly lacked in versions 6.0 and below.

The physical size of the Mozilla development team is dwarfed by the mass of Microsoft employees, with Mozilla employing around 100 employees worldwide. Mozilla also relies on a community of loyal followers of the software that contribute to the development by testing and developing. Mozilla also plan to keep up with the power of Microsoft by opening a new office in China.

Mozilla have realised they need allies in the battle with Microsoft and have since teamed up with Search Engine giants Google and Yahoo to deliver Firefox bundled with their utilities.
