Skype & 3 UK To Launch Mobile Handset
Following the trends set by Apple and the imminent release of Google’s mobile phone, Skype are planning to launch their very own mobile handset.
According to Business Week , Skype will join forces with 3 Mobile to market the handset, which is being manufactured in the Far East, and make it available in Hong Kong, Britain, Australia and Italy.

The aim is to develop a low-cost handset which will make it simple to make free calls using the mobile internet, while still offering multimedia capabilities and high speed web browsing.

The mobile handset is likely to cost less under £100, with availability on pre-paid and contract terms, which has the potential to increase Skype customer base.

Some limitations will apply though, in Australia the 3 mobile network coverage is mainly only available in capital cities and although 3 mobile phones can access other networks outside these coverage areas, only customers living within 3 zones can sign up for a phone.
