Cut price PlayStation 3 from Sony
A cut price PlayStation 3 (PS3) with a smaller hard drive and without backwards compatibility will go on sale this month.
The 40-gigabyte PS3 will cost £299 and will be on sale in the UK as well as throughout Europe and Asia
Sony the PS3’s creator has also cut the price of the larger 60 gig PS3 by £76 to £349, in a bid to boost flagging sales.
The Head of PlayStation UK, Ray Maguire, expects the total number of PS3 in use to double by Christmas.
Mr Maguire denied that the decision to launch the 40 gig version was based on poor sales of the PlayStation 3, saying that it was purely a "strategic decision".
"We have done market research, looked at fans’ forums and the feedback from consumers is that they are anxious to get into PlayStation 3 but it is too expensive," he told BBC News.
